Norwalk Woman Dancing a 'Prayer for Japan'

Nancy Schwartz loves to dance. And she loves to raise money for the American Red Cross. Saturday she’s inviting  others to join her in a dance for her latest cause: relief for the people of Japan.

Schwartz will dance, and you can join her. Your $10 donation for the privilege will go to the American Red Cross Japanese Earthquake Relief Fund.

"I just feel I can't sit by with these world events, and I think our community really can contribute on a very small level to helping individuals around the world," said Schwartz, owner of the Performance Dance Studio. "I would want somebody to help me if I was in trouble."

Schwartz said she has raised money with Pedestrian Dance before, including about $1,000 for the Red Cross's Haiti relief efforts. She's also invited people to join her to raise money for Chile.

"I'm going to perform on the spot with people who are perhaps pedestrian, or have some dance experience," she said. "I've chosen a beautiful piece of music and it's really a Prayer for Japan. … I won't turn anybody away at the door if they come and they want to be part of this."

The Pedestrian Dance will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Performance Dance, 12 Fitch St. Children 10 and up are welcome. For more information, call (203) 855-1138 or email dance@performancedance.com.
