Norwalk Marine Center Is One-Stop Shop for Boaters

NORWALK, Conn. - With the growing stresses of daily life, people need a mental release much more than they did in past years, said Rex Marine Center's store manager, Mike Maver.

That’s why the Ship’s Store at Rex Marine Center is stocked with everything a boater might need, like new inflatable boats for sale, parts for the boat you already have and Maver's boating expertise that comes with his spending the past 40 years on the water.

“We’re selling the dream,” said the longtime store manager. “There’s nothing better than running your engine, putting your sails up and just gliding.”

His know-how is also important since people have less free time to spend on the water than they did in the past. And if a boat owner needs a part that Rex Marine doesn’t have in stock, it can usually be delivered within a day’s time.

“We’re able to tell customers which part they need from experience,” said Maver. “All my people have a minimum of 10 years each.”

Rex Marine Center also provides many complimentary perks to their customers. It offers free WiFi and incredibly low prices on valet indoor and outdoor rack storage and in-water dockage. As part of a Long Island Sound Cooperative Marina Association, Rex customers also get a 10 percent discount on transient dockage with marinas in Port Jeff, Old Saybrook, Noank, Essex and Greenport.

And for those who want to try it out before they invest in their own boat, the REX Boating Club and Yacht Charters programs allow you to sail around the Long Island Sound with your friends and family without the work or expense of owning a boat.

Rex Marine Center has been a staple for boating in Fairfield County since it opened in 1936. Because of that, Maver said the atmosphere there is almost like the television show, Cheers.

“Everybody is your friend. We are now seeing some third generation customers. The grandchildren of our customers come here.”
