The first edition of the Fairfield resident’s book was published in 2010. For the new edition, Frank discusses new treatment options that have become available in the ensuing years.
“Anyone who is diagnosed with cancer receives a frightening blow, and in many cases the diagnosis is accompanied by a bewildering array of treatment choices,” he said in a statement.
Among the new discussion points in the book are targeted therapies, immune therapies and personalized cancer medicine.
Additionally, the new edition also updates sections on the types of medicines used to fight cancer, and it adds a section on alternative cancer therapies and mind-body medicine.
The first edition of the book won first place in the Health Care Professionals category of the 2010 American Medical Writers Association Medical Books Award program, and it also received the Will Solimene Award For Excellence in the Medical Communication category from the association.
Frank earned a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard University and a medical degree from SUNY-Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
