FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Twinkling lights will soon fill lawns and parks of Fairfield County for Family Centers annual Hope Lights Lives luminary project. The campaign supports the Center for HOPE and the Den for Grieving Kids.
Volunteers across the county are selling luminary kits in preparation for the events multi-town lighting. More than 5,000 kits have already been soldin the annual tradition.
Hundreds of Greenwich, Darien, Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Wilton, Rowayton, and Southport residents will adorn their lawns with luminaries on Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. to honor loved ones who have died or are coping with a critical illness.
Official lighting takes place a week later, but Luminary Week will begin on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m., with public displays at Binney Park in Old Greenwich and Tilley Pond in Darien.
Boy Scout Troop 11 in Greenwich and Boy Scout Troop 53 in Darien are on board to ensure these displays will be spectacular, said Bill Brucker, communications director for Family Centers.
Luminary kits are $25 and contain 12 tea light candles, 12 white paper bags and 12 plastic candle holders. All proceeds benefit the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids, as well as Family Centers critical illness and bereavement support programs.
