Letter: Maps, Kayaking Book Make Good Gifts

NORWALK, Conn. – Once again this holiday season, the Norwalk River Watershed Association is suggesting "Trails of the Norwalk River Valley and Vicinity" folded maps and "Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands" guidebooks for Christmas stocking stuffers. More details on both items and online sales can be found at www.norwalkriver.org.

Proceeds from online sales of maps and books help fund the association's efforts to improve the water quality and aesthetic value of the 40,000-acre, seven-town Norwalk River watershed, including encouraging the use of trails and open space and promoting education of stakeholders. Take a look at the extensive information on the website, including several publications and water quality reports through September 2011 by Harbor Watch/River Watch of Earthplace in Westport. Membership information is also available.

The board of directors of the Norwalk River Watershed Association and its members are volunteers who live in the watershed towns and beyond. We are active throughout the year at environmental events, trail and park improvements, riverbank restoration, advocating for proper stewardship of the watershed, as well as other activities. The association is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and has been the recipient of several grants to help further our mission.
