Husband and Wife Keep Homes Green

For owners Robin and Gary Murphy, running Maid Brigade, the area's largest home cleaning service, is more than just cleaning houses  - it's about building staff teamwork and strong customer relationships while keeping the local community a greener place.

In addition to providing top-notch service since 1996, the company has developed a clientele spanning Westchester, Putnam, Fairfield and Rockland counties. What's more, they've done it from an environmentally-conscious platform before the term "green" was even used in connection with housecleaning.

"Clients ask, 'why aren't you using bleach?' and I explain that not only isn't bleach necessary for most cleaning tasks that people use it for but it's not safe for the environment, the surfaces being cleaned and, for the people who come into contact with it," said Robin Murphy.

Maid Brigade takes their stance as a Green Clean Certified ® company a step further by using vacuums with HEPA-quality filters and microfiber cleaning cloths. Company cars are also embedded with eco-friendly oil filters by local business MicroGreen and GPS devices so employees follow the most efficient routes possible to their assignments - conserving gas and energy.

According to Gary Murphy, the many successes by Maid Brigade can be attributed to the balanced working relationship between the staff and owners there.

"There's a shared success between everyone here," said Gary.

"We have the spirit that 'we all eat off the same plate' so to speak, and it's the team-building that make us a fun company to work for," he added.

That camaraderie is evident in the community service Maid Brigade has been involved with over the years.

"We provide services to many organizations and it doesn't only make us feel good but it is important to our staff as well."

Among others, the Murphys and their staff are affiliated with Support Connection and Putnam Community Cares, two local groups working to lend a hand to those suffering with life threatening illnesses including breast and ovarian cancer.

"While our company cleans for people referred by Support Connection, it's especially touching that our staff come out on their own to walk in their annual Support-a-Walk," Gary added.  "It shows a special pride."

Lastly, the Murphys strive for excellence in customer service by offering clients a 200% Guarantee. If a client isn't completely satisfied with the quality of the cleaning even after Maid Brigade goes back to make things right a second time, there will be no charge and Maid Brigade will write a check to a local non-profit for the amount they were supposed to pay.
