Have You 'Friended' the Greenwich Mountain Lion?

A mountain lion is still out prowling — and not just on the streets of Greenwich. She (yes, she) is giving up-to-date accounts of her every move on Twitter, and she just might have more friends on Facebook than you do.

Since joining the social networking world last week, the Greenwich Mountain Lion has made upward of 1,000 Facebook friends. Greenwich Mountain Lion’s Facebook “About” section says, “I am a fine mountain lion who has taken up residence in back country Greenwich, CT! My interests are food, water and chasing small animals (or tacky people in animal prints). Can anyone point me in the direction of the Avenue?”

The big cat’s tongue-in-cheek likes include listening to Lionel Richie and watching movies like "The Wizard of Oz," "The Lion in Winter" and "The Lion King." According to her page, she attended Greenwich High School before entering Pennsylvania State University, whose mascot is the Nittany Lion. However, joining the ranks of many other recent college graduates, the Greenwich Mountain Lion is currently unemployed.

On her Facebook page, some residents suggest people she may want to snack on. But the Greenwich Mountain Lion is using her Twitter to give upward of 145 followers updates on her whereabouts. On her Twitter, gwichmtlion describes herself as, “a big cat on the prowl in the richest suburb in America.”

After sightings of the mountain lion were reported in Greenwich on Sunday, gwichmtlion said she was on her way to a 7:15 a.m. tee-time at Greenwich Country Club. When Audubon Greenwich closed its trails after sightings of the big cat, gwichmtlion said, “I’m lonely today!!”

The lion said she was hiding out at the Greenwich Library on Monday, reading “Library Lion” by Michelle Knudson and warned patrons and the library's director to be careful in between the stacks. “I’m looking at you Carol Mahoney…right now!!”

The Greenwich Mountain Lion has dispelled myths of her own demise, taking a cue from Mark Twain’s quote, “rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” Though always a cautious cat, she tweeted that she is still planning on “keeping clear of the Merritt Parkway.”
