When "Pirates of the Caribbean 4," opening at IMAX, Maritime on July 15, first reveals its high-rise sized versions of Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and legendary foe Blackbeard (Ian McShane), kids might be ready to walk the plank. But they'll quickly buy in to the film's goofy sense of fun and happily stay on board. Showings take place daily at the Aquarium at 5:15 p.m., with extra shows at 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, visit the Aquarium's website.

Martin Short, long-standing swashbuckler of silly, sails his comedy ship in to Ridgefield Playhouse on July 15, for one, over the top, totally hilarious performance beginning at 7 p.m. Be sure to catch him in this family friendly evening. For tickets and information, visit the Playhouse's website.

Bling out at "Bijoux: The Origins and Impact of Jewelry" opening July 16 at The Bruce Museum, with more gems than a pirate's treasure chest. You'll discover the variety of materials that have come in and out of favor as adornments, including chunky jewelry made from bones and fossils. And plenty of sleek baubles tricked out with diamonds and CZs are also on eye catching display. This celebration of the many styles, mediums and ingenious crafters who've kept us divinely decorated runs through March, 2012. For information, visit the Museum's website.

"Tattoos & Tallships" manifest their own marine mystique at Mystic Seaport Saturday and Sunday. The acclaimed exhibit, "Skin & Bones – Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor," traces the history of tattoos and intrepid visitors can design their own tattoo which face painters and henna tattoo artists are ready to execute.
