First Nighters Welcome New Year

Isabella Leite, 7, and her sister, Natalia, 5, were among those wandering the downtown streets for the Westport/Weston First Night event on Friday evening. The girls and their parents are from Thornwood, N.Y., and were visiting Westport for the first time. "I like it," their mother said. "It's nice here."

Agnes Martin of Pawtucket, R.I., was selling neon fun makers. "A girl's gotta try to make a living somehow," she said.

Martin was with four other people from Rhode Island who came to sell the trinkets for the second time. They planned to head to Philadelphia next so they could sell items at the Mummer's Parade on New Year's Day. "We'll drive down there and get a little sleep," she said. "A little sleep."
