Dogs Contemplate End of Season at Compo

My yard or yours? These dogs might be discussing where they'll play after April 1, when they're no longer allowed on Westport's Compo Beach. Owners Barbara Brooks of Ridgefield and Mark James of Wilton enjoy the beach as well, and they'll be allowed back this summer. When Compo becomes dog-free, Westport crews will rake the beach and clean the park, in anticipation of its May 1 re-opening. Park admission is required as of May 1 as well. Residents can buy stickers for $35 online at https://activenet8.active.com/westportrecreation/. They're good through September 30. Non-resident beach stickers for the season cost $200. The day rate is $25 on weekdays and $40 on weekends.

Where can dogs play off leash while Compo is closed to them? In Westport, at Winslow Park off Route 1, and in Norwalk, at Cranbury Park near Grumman Avenue. Otherwise, they'll just have to cross off calendar days until October 1 rolls around and they can frolic at Compo again.
