Dinner Raises Funds for Food Bank

Chefs Bryan Malcarney and Stephen Maronian were among the chefs who donated their talents for the Fifth Annual Connoisseurs Dinner to benefit the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. Food bank executive director Kate Lombardo said the evening at the Stamford Yacht Club was a success.

“Everything came together in such a perfect way,” Lombardo said in a press release, “and everyone was there for one important reason -- to raise money so we can continue to provide food through the holidays.”

The food bank supplies groceries to more than 100 non-profit organizations in Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton to give to those in need. Lombardo expects her organization will need about 15,000 turkeys to distribute throughout Fairfield County this year due to economic conditions.

Malcarney and Maronian were joined by chefs Erik Anderson, Jean-Louis Gerin, Tom Isidori, Pietro Scotti, and P. Quint Smith in donating their time and talent to put together a five-course meal for the event. The food was donated by the Cingari family of Grade A markets, and the night was sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and Thomson Reuters.

The food bank also raised funds with a silent auction as well as a live one led by News 8 WTNH meteorologist Matt Scott.

While Lombardo was pleased with the turnout for last month’s dinner, the Food Bank will continue to raise funds to help those in need. Lombardo said donations do not need to be big and that $35 can provide a Thanksgiving meal.
