STAR Inc., Lighting the Way is a not-for-profit organization serving individuals of all ages who have developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families.
The holiday celebration included cookie decorating, Christmas caroling, bingo, dancing to live music by STAR’s Rubberband and a visit from Santa. The party also included gift cards, snacks and soda, all provided by Deloitte.
STAR’s Director of Residential Services Cheryl Bergstrom said: “This party means so much to STAR and we are so appreciative. For some of our participants, this is one of their only holiday celebrations of the season. The Deloitte volunteers really bring the party atmosphere, wearing their holiday sweaters and elf hats--and it’s a lot of work, setting up and serving this large group, and also playing the games and singing with them. They socialize and interact, which adds to the party atmosphere and introduces individuals with disabilities to new friends. We are so glad Deloitte has continued this wonderful tradition for STAR."
Katie Banzhaf, executive director of STAR said: “STAR Inc., Lighting the Way is honored to be a recipient of Deloitte’s generous outreach for over three decades. They have employed STAR participants, contributed generous grants and sponsorships for our events and remained actively committed to supporting STAR and other community organizations. We are very grateful.”
STAR creates opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy while informing and encouraging the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.
