Curtis Calls Spring Perfect for Car Cleanup

The season is turning toward spring, and people's thoughts are turning toward cleaning up after the long and trying winter: Cleaning their homes, their yards and their cars.

“With all the stuff that’s happened in the last three months, cars can look pretty beat up,” says Mark Curtis, co-owner of the Splash Car Wash chain. “And it’s not just the outside. The interiors can look pretty bad from all the sand and salt that’s been tracked inside.”

For those reasons, this is the perfect time for a spring cleaning for vehicles. And with the precipitation changing from frozen to liquid, it may be even more important. “Believe it or not, rain is worse for a car’s finish than road salt and sand,” says Curtis, noting the high acid content in rain in the Northeast. “What you need to do is put on a sacrificial coat of wax to take the beating instead of the clear coat sealer.”

At the minimum, Curtis recommends a wash and polish but says detailing will make your car shine. “We offer two levels of detailing,” he says. “Our express detailing takes 30 minutes and is a great tune-up between major services.” For those who want every inch of their car cleaned, Splash’s major detailing is a “bumper to bumper full service” that takes four to five hours and requires an advance appointment.

Every Splash wash includes interior vacuuming, but whether you need more “depends on how neat you are,” says Curtis. “We’ve had mothers come in where the Goldfish and Cheerios are almost up to windows.”

As part of the Express Detailing, Splash applies a coat of Simoniz wax that is guaranteed for 90 days “So about every three months is a good interval to get it done,” says Curtis. Frequent washes in the interim will keep your car looking showroom-new and worthy of being driven down any street in town.
