A large number of runners and walkers participated Sunday in the inaugural Christine's Run It While You Can at Jennings Beach in Fairfield. The event featured a 5k road race, a two-mile fitness walk, a fun run for kids, a one-mile youth road race and a family fun run. Afterwards, some of the participants followed Joe Riccio into Long Island Sound for the Race Director's Group Plunge. Warm spring temperatures and sunny skies helped the event become a smashing success. The race is named after Christine Morandi, who died last year. She was the aquatic director for the YMCA in Bridgeport. Proceeds from the event benefit the Christine Morandi Memorial Foundation, which seeks to improve the lives of youths by supporting inclusive swim programs and providing aquatic scholarships for under-represented minorities.
