Cathy Malloy Honored at Stamford Marriott

Before Cathy Malloy stepped down from her role as executive director of the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education, she gave it one more gift. She hosted more than 300 people at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa for its annual Raise Your Glass fundraiser Thursday night.

Ten years ago, Malloy was looking to get back into the work force. With her management experience, Malloy was offered the executive director position. “It was the right time, and it was right for me,” she says.

Throughout her decade with the center, she credits its ability to adjust to technological advancements and new forms of sexual assault that stem from them as one of its greatest accomplishments. She specifically mentioned the center’s ability to teach children what is wrong to say or type, and why it's wrong as to the key factors in trying to prevent sexual assault. “Who knew what sexting was?” Malloy says of how times have changed.

The night honored Malloy's service. She is stepping down to join her husband, Gov. Dannel Malloy in Hartford. The governor was on hand and toasted his wife, praising her work with the center, their family and his political career — all without letting any part of her life suffer. “She was the greatest mom, the greatest friend you can ever have,” Malloy said of his wife.

Although Connecticut’s first lady will no longer be affiliated with the center, Malloy said she will continue to work with sexual assault victims and similar organizations. A new executive director has not yet been named.
