Bookend Your Weekend with Zydeco and Raptors

July wraps up this weekend but not to worry, we've only just reached the summer's midpoint with plenty of family festivities still to unfold. Here's what's happening this weekend:

Friday, July 29 Get an uptempo start to your time off when from 6-7:30 p.m. Pequot Library's lawn becomes the stage for New Orleans storyteller and musician Papillion who brings his Zydeco/Cajun music to Southport. Families can enjoy a picnic supper and boogie along between bites. If it rains, the music moves indoors. For more information, visit the Libary's website.

Fri. July 29 and Sat. July 30Mark midsummer on Friday and Saturday by shimmying over to historic Old Lyme's quintessential New England Midsummer Festival. On Friday evening, The Wolverine Jazz Band performs a free concert on the banks of the Lieutenant River at the Florence Griswold Museum. On Saturday, sample a French-styled farmer’s market. Then, pop over to the parading paws dog show, or visit art exhibitions and sales, tune in to musical performances, an artisan-fair, book signings and hands-on kids crafts and entertainment. A Shoreline Chef Competition will likely yield some good eats. For more information, visit the Festival's webpage.
