A mom tells it like it is

How do you know when you’re really a mom? Lisa Hadlow put that question to the members of her group, the Darien MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers), and here are some of the things they said:

“You know you’re a mom when it’s bedtime and you still haven’t showered.”

“You know you’re a mom when you catch your kid’s vomit to save the carpet.”

“You know you’re a mom when you’re excited that you’ve had three hours sleep without being wakened by a crying baby.”

Those responses are smilers for any mom, including Lisa, the mother of four and the coordinator of the group.“Mothering is a huge challenge," she says." Moms need a place to go where they can feel supported and understood.” The Darien MOPS group meets at St. Paul’s Church every other Wednesday from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Moms chat about chosen topics, such as guilt-free parenting or sibling rivalry. A free hot breakfast is served and guest speakers occasionally drop in. Most recently, Dr. Michael Gillern talked about the importance of finding time to spend with your spouse when you're not talking about the kids or household chores. (Have you stopped laughing yet?)

To help the moms get quality time with each other, kids are cared for during the meeting in the MOPPETS program.
