On your mark, get ready and get set for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S for 2012 or get set to just gawk at them. Sports car enthusiasts can take a look at this years version of the iconic vehicle, which is making its debut at New Country Porsche of Greenwich.
After its introduction last fall, the automotive blogosphere lit up with word that the newest 911 was the best iteration yet of Ferdinand Porsches original sports car vision. Whether this is a customers first or their latest Porsche 911, its going to be the most exhilarating driving and ownership experience yet, says Porsche Sales Specialist Patrizio Torregiani.
The new 911 has been redesigned from the ground up literally, Torregiani says. The new model applies balance to the priorities of a fuel-efficient era, while preserving classic 911 lines. And designers have revisited every inch of the car for advances in power and fuel economy. While enthusiasts will quickly recognize 2012's 911 Carrera, 90 percent of its components, says Torregiani, are new or fundamentally revised.
Its stretched silhouette, says Torregiani, as well as its contours and precisely designed features trump the cars heritage from every angle. But it is longer, lower, wider and 100 pounds lighter than its predecessors. And it is faster and more efficient than previous models as well.
In addition to aesthetic improvements, both new models offer significant performance enhancements. The 2012 911 Carrera is equipped with a new 350-horsepower, 3.4-liter boxer engine, while the Carrera S features a 400-horsepower, 3.8-liter boxer engine a 15 horsepower improvement over its predecessor. The 911 Carrera with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) accelerates from zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds, while the Carrera S sprints from zero to 60 in a mere 4.1 seconds. That time is reduced further to 3.9 seconds when equipped with the Sports Chrono Package Plus. Top track speeds for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S are 179 and 188 mph, respectively.
The new 911 Carrera raises the bar in performance and efficiency, Torregiani says, with systems such as the automatic start/stop function, engine and transmission thermal management and electrical system recuperation. It also sports the worlds first seven-speed manual transmission and in conjunction with PDK the ability to sail or coast.
How much will it cost to drive the new 911 Carrera Coup into your driveway? Base price starts at $82,000, and the 911 Carrera S Coupe will start at about $96,000.
