Wyff Lights Up the Night at WishList

Westport’s young and stylish converged on WishList on Sunday evening for a first-rate fashion show featuring pieces from WishList and other fab labels. And I had a front row seat for a sneak preview. In a word, it was hot.

The ultra-mod stage was set with billowy fuchsia curtains and feathery white holiday accents. The lights lowered and a bass-driven music pumped through the room as the models made their way onto the catwalk amidst a burst of flash bulbs from local "paparazzi" and area photographers like Debra Somerville.

Make up artist Martha Rebocho lent her talents to the evening as well, drawing out the natural beauty of each model in gorgeous and understated ways.

And while the show alone was enough to write home – or a fashion column – about, the larger cause is the real story. The party was held to support one of Fairfield County’s most progressive artistic endeavors, the Westport Youth Film Festival. WYFF is the only student film festival in the country where students are directly involved in the management of the organization. And the students involved benefit from “mentorship, guidance and support from film industry professionals.”

“WishList was our top choice to hold this event,” said Kate Lupo, WYFF Program Director. “The students who shop at WishList are the same creative, artistic students who participate in the festival. And WishList has been an incredible sponsor. They designed this year’s limited edition WYFF t-shirt.”

The evening’s models were just as enthusiastic about the show and WYFF’s impact. “WYFF is such a good way for young filmmakers to get involved,” said model and WYFF alum Meredith Travers. “It’s very unique.” Meredith, currently a freshman at NYU and newly-signed model with Wilhelmina, is the former Staff Advising Director for WYFF.

“My older brother is at Emerson studying film,” said model and Weston High School senior, Paige Daly. “He was always involved, and so I think it rubbed off on me. I do whatever I can to help out WYFF. I even baked cookies and cupcakes for the bake sale,” she laughed.

Look for WYFF to make another splash in May 2011 when they open their eighth annual festival. For more information on WYFF and how you can get involved, check out their website.
