Window Air Conditioners Leak Cold Air Inside

If you forgot to remove your window air conditioner at the end of summer, put this job at the top of your to-do list before we have seriously cold weather.

Window air conditioners are great at removing hot, humid air from your home in the summer. That's their job. However, in winter, they can cause cold air to leak into your home.

Since air conditioners are heavy, make sure you have help when you remove the unit from the window. Don't forget to unplug it first, then take off the front cover and any foam padding or insulation surrounding the air conditioner.

Once it's out, clean the windowsill carefully so that the window shuts properly, and make sure the storm windows are in place. Clean your air conditioner, including the filter, and store it until next spring.
