Weve officially put summer to bed, but the days of not wearing white after Labor Day are long past. There are a thousand and one ways to incorporate white into your wardrobe over the cooler months. Here are a few of my favorites:
-- Its all about the fabric. Autumns textures are always heavier, so linen (in any color) is out. Save those breezy tunics for next Memorial Day. A single white piece in a heavier, textured fabric think a cashmere jacket or fitted wool jumper is an eye-catching way to light up your style, day or night, especially when layered on top of black.
-- A tailored white shirt is always in style. If you can, spend a little money on this. It can mean the difference between a flimsy fabric in an unflattering cut, and crisp, totally pulled-together style. If off-the-rack designer labels are out of your reach, hit your local consignment shop, because this classic look rarely changes. Put it under a suit or pair it with your favorite fall denim and the result will be white hot.
-- Fur (or my preference, faux fur) is fun, and was all over designer runways for winter. From boots to bags to hats (Im talking Russian army-inspired ushankas!) go white for luxurious, Bond Girl style.
-- Consider your makeup an extension of your wardrobe. A white highlight at your brow line or -- for evening -- along your bottom lash line will brighten your eyes. And light eyes pair beautifully with the fall season's red lip fetish.
-- White parkas are always a go in my book. Short, medium or long, a parka is a cozy way to wear white during the darkest winter days. Just make sure you keep it clean.
