When Black Friday Comes, Shop

It’s the most shopped day of the year, and it’s just around the corner. The Friday following Thanksgiving, typically referred to in retail-ese as Black Friday, is a contemporary American holiday marked by bargain-hunting and sale shopping.

After sifting through the good, the bad and the destined to be regifted, I’ve compiled a list of smaller shops with big holiday deals or off-beat gift ideas in stores you might not otherwise hear about. Now get out there and get your jingle on!

Rowayton Flea—Located behind Sails restaurant in Rowayton, this boutique is packed with funky finds for wardrobe and home. This Friday, Nov. 25 Rowayton Flea wants to make you merry with a “Black Fleaday” sale, complete with wine, hot chocolate, sweets, treats and 40 percent off select items. 158B Rowayton Ave., Rowayton

Soma Boutique—As part of the newly expanded Casa Ryan shop in the Saugatuck neighborhood of Westport, Soma Boutique carries hard-to-find designers and labels. And co-owner Maria Casabianca was so ready to get the shopping party started, that she kicked it off Nov. 22. Now through Friday, Nov. 25, frugal fashionistas can save $25 for every $100 you spend in the boutique. 22 Railroad Plc., Westport

Scout Pop-Up Boutique—Cleverly billed as a “Scout-let,” the preppy retailer has outfitted the 2,000 square foot space on Washington St. (next to Donovan’s) in SoNo with all manner of patterned totes, travel bags and accessories.  136 Washington St., South Norwalk

Annie’s Blue Ribbon General Store Pop-Up—The beloved Brooklyn-based Annie’s has brought its 21st century general store model to The Avenue in Greenwich, just in time for the holidays. This upscale general store has plenty of items to stuff the stockings of everyone on your list, including decadent beauty items like Lollia’s shower gels and creams. 51 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich
