Westport Mom Unlocks Secret to Balance

Tracy Boyce is one of those women who never does things by halves. Brimming with energy, this mother of four breezes through life balancing her business as a Feng Shui consultant with her passion for surfing.

“Life is all about balance,” she says. Tracy should know. She trained as an accountant and spent many years balancing debits and credits. “Feng Shui is about balancing energy,” she explains. And when Tracy went to a surfing camp in Mexico three years ago, her sense of balance helped her get up and ride her board like a pro. “I grew up in Palm Beach, Florida, watching the boys surf. We girls would sit on the beach and chat,” she remembers. “I always wanted to try it.”

Tracy stumbled on Feng Shui by chance 15 years ago at a dinner party. “Someone mentioned it and I was intrigued. I’d never heard of Feng Shui,” she says. A trip to Barnes & Noble unearthed just one book on the subject, but that book led her to a week-long study course that had her hooked. She felt as if she’d walked onto a new planet.

“Feng Shui originated in India and was originally practiced as sacred geometry and used to build the temples,” she says. Tracy spent five weeks in India studying the history and practice of this ancient art.  On her return home to Westport, she found herself helping friends guide the chi (energy) in their homes using Feng Shui principles. Before long, she knew she had a business.

According to Tracy, Feng Shui is all about transformation, whether of a home or of a person’s life. The literal meaning of Feng Shui is “wind” and “water” and these are the elements that transform the earth. “They symbolize flow and containment,” she says. By balancing the elements in a home, people often find a better balance in their personal lives. Take the example of the client who was single and looking for a relationship. “The relationship corner of her space was a mess,” says Tracy who advised cleaning the room and hanging photos of couples on the wall. “Next time I saw her she was dating,” Tracy says, smiling.
