Wash That Dry Right Out of Your Hair

Hair is particularly vulnerable to drying out, especially in winter. Once it does, you’re a prisoner of the frizz. Over-cleansing can make matters worse. But heavy conditioners can weigh down your locks, leaving them looking greasy and dirty.

So what’s a girl to do?

Becker Chicaiza of Becker Salon in Greenwich has plenty of tips for treating your hair to a silkier winter.

You want to keep your hair clean, Becker acknowledges. But he suggests using a moisturizing shampoo. “It keeps hair from drying out,” Becker explains. “When hair dries out, it will frizz, making it seem out of control.”

One other tip he has for keeping hair clean without over-drying: “Rather than use shampoo at full strength, dilute it to one part shampoo, three parts water.” This makes for a milder wash and a much smoother winter.
