Warm Up to The Greenhouse Grill

Are you hungry for something new? The Greenhouse Grill may be just what you’re looking for. Executive Chef and owner James V. Grace has made it his mission to deliver the unexpected.

“I want people to come in and say, ‘Oh, that’s different. I haven’t tasted that before,’” says James of his newly opened Fairfield restaurant. “I like to use local ingredients. I cook with big, bold flavors, little explosions of herbs on the palate.”

Speaking of local herbs, James grows his own in the greenhouse portion of his restaurant. “Sure, I’ve got lemongrass up there, oregano, thyme -- I’m growing a bunch of stuff up there.”

And while the herbs growing above your head as you dine add ambiance, it’s what James does with them in his kitchen that will keep you coming back. The New American cuisine is unpretentious. The lunch menu offers items satisfying items like the Grilled Vegetable and Goat Cheese Panini, with smoked tomatoes on rosemary focaccia, and a whimsical Grilled Cheese of the Day.

“I employ a lot of old cooking techniques, too,” James says. “I like roasted and braised meats. One of my favorites on the menu is the Braised Short Rib Cavatappi, with farmer’s cheese, figs, and green onions. We do everything in-house. We even make our own ice cream.”

The Greenhouse Grill’s lunch and dinner menus are complemented by an extensive and uncommon wine list, including many unusual suspects by the glass, like the supple Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc and the lush Septima Malbec.

Perhaps the most revolutionary thing about The Greenhouse Grill, though, is that you can actually enjoy a meal there anytime from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.  James doesn’t close between lunch and dinner, and instead offers gourmet food at diner hours.

“You can always get food off the bar menu. We’re so close to the train station, and to the wonderful sidewalk traffic in Fairfield, I don’t see a reason not to serve. People are hungry at all times of the day. I want them to come here and eat.”

Enjoy a superior meal at almost any time of day at the Greenhouse Grill, located at 12 Unquowa Place in Fairfield.
