VW Jetta Combines No-Nonsense with Humdrum

Thinking of buying a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta? Consider the following review, by Rick Newman.

What's worth knowing: This sedan/wagon set suffers from the blands, but might grow on you if you spring for a few extras.

Base price: $15,995. But you'll probably want one of the more expensive trim lines; MPG range (city/highway): 23/33.

Who it's for: Pragmatists who appreciate functionality over style and enjoy Teutonic minimalism.

What's good: This no-nonsense four- or five-door offers strong driving dynamics for the money, and you can outfit it with a sunroof, nav system, leather interior and Bluetooth for less than $25,000.

What's bad: When did VeeDubs get so boring? The humdrum exterior would have been mainstream 10 or 15 years ago.

What to do: Go for a test drive, close your eyes, get in and appreciate the Jetta's inner beauty.
