Volvo Owners Choose the Smart Lane

A Volvo is the quintessential family vehicle. Safe, sturdy, reliable and maneuverable in the harshest weather conditions, the Swedish-built vehicle's reputation for safety is virtually unparalleled in the automotive industry. And people who buy Volvos are loyal to the brand, often purchasing more than one Volvo in the course of their lifetime. But not only are Volvo buyers loyal: they're smart as well.

Ray Kearns, general manager at Volvo of Westport for 15 years, agrees: "Highly educated people drive Volvos," he says, adding, "Studies have shown that a Volvo buyer has the highest formal education of any car buyer."

And if the Volvo buyer is smart, then due credit goes to the minds that design it. Volvo's innovations in vehicle safety are legendary. The company has developed and refined many of the safety features in today's automobiles. Standard in every car today are three-point seat belts, crumple zones, laminated windshields and safety cages. And they were all pioneered by Volvo engineers.

Volvo of Westport has been at the same location for all its 28 years in business. The showroom and service areas have been updated, and the waiting area has a flat-screen TV, but the biggest change? "By a small margin, more women than men choose and buy Volvos than they ever did," said Ray.

Which means, not only is the Volvo-buyer well-educated, she's a smart cookie as well.
