Transplanted Dealer Stays Down-to-Earth

"I'm not a fancy girl," says Shirley C. Perez, Nissan Sales Representative. "All I need is a car that gets me from here to there. I save my money for other things!" That's why she's been more than happy with the Sentra she's had since 2004. "It's reliable, great on fuel," she says. In spite of her practical priorities, Shirley's next Nissan might be a model with more bells and whistles: The 2010 Rogue. "I really want one!" (Not that her Sentra isn't in good shape. In fact, Shirley plans on handing it down to her 21-year-old daughter.)

Shirley's not new to Nissan, but she's only been working at the Darien dealership for one month. Before moving to Norwalk, she lived and sold Fords, then Nissans, in Queens. The market was better back then. "When it was good, I bought everything - my house, my car," she says. "Since 2001, everything went down."

Luckily Nissans are known for being one of the most affordable makes on the road. The Altima, which Shirley considers her dealership's best-selling model, starts at $19,900.  So Nissans have remained in demand to a certain degree, even through the economic ups and downs. As a mother-of-four, Shirley appreciates Nissan's price point on a personal level. She has a 13-year-old son who plays in his school band (and has plenty of gear to fill up the coveted Rogue's extra trunk space) and a 21-year-old daughter who will benefit from the long life of her mother's Sentra. "I'm going to give it to her when I get the Rogue," says Shirley.
