Question:
Who knows how he got on the sofa, but the new puppy has just shredded your favorite throw pillow. There are feathers everywhere, the fabric is torn to bits and now he's chasing the pieces of trim around the living room. What do you do?
Answer: (Try to pick just one.....)
1. You take the stupid mutt to the pound.
2. You eat a carton of double fudge ice cream to calm your nerves.
3. You head off to Giorgio's Upholstery in Norwalk to see if they can match the fabric.
Here's another scenario. Say you've moved house and couldn't bear to part with your favorite draperies, but the new house has an extra window. You're going to need more fabric. Just like clothing, fabrics go in and out of style, so trying to match a fabric that is more than five years old can be pretty difficult.
Debbie Taiyanides, who owns Giorgio's Upholstery with her husband, Giorgio, grew up in the business working in her father's store, Leonard's. On vacation in Thessaloniki, Greece, she met Giorgio, whose family had a furniture making business. A match made in heaven!! The couple have been in business since the mid 1990s, specializing in custom draperies, upholstery and reupholstery. Giorgio can custom make chairs and sofas and repairing antiques is one of his specialties.
Giorgio's is a veritable treasure trove of fabrics and decorative trims, including a large selection of discontinued stock from most of the large fabric houses. And if you still can't find what you're looking for, leave it in Debbie's capable hands. If she can't find your fabric, no one can!
Giorgio's Upholstery is at 363 Main Ave. in Norwalk, across from Stop & Shop.
