Is your kitchen overflowing with plastic containers, all in different sizes? Deli containers and Tupperware are great for keeping leftovers fresh, but whats the secret to keeping all those plastic tubs under control?
When I design a kitchen, I always designate one deep drawer for just this use -- a 24 inch-wide drawer should give you plenty of room. If you dont have a spare drawer, find a storage bin and fit it into a lower cabinet. Next, you need to sort your containers. If you've got extra lids, recycle them. If you have a bottom with no top, throw that one out, too.
How many of your containers fit into each other? The secret to keeping them tidy is to stack them up. The most efficient containers are squares and rectangles. They fit neatly into each other and into your drawer or storage bin -- and they take up less space in your refrigerator. Next time youre in the supermarket, treat yourself to some new rectangular containers. And dispatch those deli tubs to your blue recycling bin.
