Take Cover from the Sun

The sun is out, the temperature is warm -- and your skin is exposed. What are you supposed to do, wear a ski hat and a sweater year-round? Not exactly, but taking steps to protect your skin during the summer can go a long way toward keeping skin -- the largest organ in your body -- healthy and glowing.

The most important measure you can take is to protect yourself from the sun. Over-exposure causes freckling, wrinkling and age spots. Most critically though, it causes cancer.

* Avoid the sun during its strongest hours, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

* Wear protective clothing: tightly woven, long sleeved shirts, as well as long pants and broad-rimmed hats go a long way to shut out damaging rays.

* Use generous amounts of broad-spectrum sunscreen. Apply generously 30 minutes before expose. And re-apply after swimming and/or prolonged exposure to the sun.
