Take a Shortcut to Tipperary

Fairfield County loves an excuse to celebrate, and St. Patrick’s Day is a mighty one. From bagpipers to corned beef and cabbage, there are plenty of parties to choose from, with spring weather as a promised backdrop. Whether you’re Irish or not, there’s fun to be had this Thursday. Here are a few area hot spots that will have you shouting “Erin Go Bragh,” even if you don’t know what it means. (For the record, loosely translated, it means “Ireland Forever.”)

Tigin Irish Pub – This Stamford pub is like a little stateside Irish satellite. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for a “Kegs and Eggs” celebration, for those of you lucky enough to have taken the day off. The party continues all day and into the evening with traditional Irish food, live music, rugby, soccer and, of course, Guinness. With good weather promised, the folks at Tigin are rolling out an outdoor festival in honor of the day. Tigin Irish Pub is located at 175 Bedford St. in Stamford.

Rory’s – Darien’s landmark casual dining destination will celebrate St. Patrick’s day with their hallmark low-key brand of classy. Enjoy corned beef and cabbage, cooked to perfection, while you’re serenaded by bagpipers. Sure, serenades and bagpipers don’t usually go together, but this Thursday, we’re all Irish, right? Rory’s is waiting at the end of the rainbow at 416 Post Road in Darien.

Vinny’s Grill and Grotto – Vinny must have invited his Irish cousin for the occasion, because this Fairfield establishment promises shepard’s pie and corned beef specials. And there are requisite deals on Guinness. Vinny’s Grill and Grotto is tucked away at 93 Post Road in Fairfield.

Donovan’s – South Norwalk will come alive with the sound of real bagpipers at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at this neighborhood pub. Don’t miss their Irish food and drink specials. Donovan’s is located at 138 Washington St. in Norwalk.
