Nothing says sunny weather like a new frozen yogurt shop. And this weekend, Fairfield County was gifted with not one, but two locales to enjoy the sweet taste of summer. Swizzles, a brand new frozen yogurt purveyor, has just opened stores in Darien and Wilton.
Sunday, I dropped by the Wilton store to see what the swirl was about. The cozy space was packed with Wiltonites and other Fairfield County folks out to celebrate the warmer weather. Its a self-serve set up, and your frozen yogurt purchase is calculated by weight. For 59 cents an ounce, you can fill your cup with one or several of their customized, natural, certified kosher flavors. Swizzles tasty list includes chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, cookies n cream, cake batter and -- drum roll please -- the temptingly tart original Bloomingdales flavor. Swizzles also offers a vast array of toppings that range from fresh fruit to Fruit Loops.
Cake batter is definitely my favorite flavor, Ivie, a student at the University of Connecticut and Wilton Swizzles staffer, told me. I think it has been one of our best sellers today.
Ivie also said that it wasnt just Wilton residents enjoying the towns latest sweet spot. Weve had people from Fairfield come in. Kind of all over.
Not to worry if Darien or Wilton isnt convenient to you: Swizzles is set to open a third storefront in Ridgefield about eight weeks from now, according to general manager Bobby Elbaqi. It will be stocked with the same deliciousness youll find at the other locations.
Im a plain kind of guy, Bobby says with a laugh. Its my favorite flavor. No toppings, just the yogurt. Hes speaking, of course, about that borderline addictive Bloomingdales flavor.
After sampling Swizzles wares, Id have to agree with Bobby. Theres just nothing like it. And now, Fairfield County, we dont have to hop on a Metro North train to taste the tartness. With Swizzles on the scene, its shaping up to be a tart and tasty summer already.
Swizzles is located at 5 River Road in Wilton (across from Starbucks), 1029 Post Road in Darien, and soon to be seen at 424 Main Street in Ridgefield.
