Supercharge your Workout

The onset of warm weather often means a newfound interest in exercising in the great outdoors. And according to the American College of Sports Medicine, your outside workouts can help you exercise more efficiently and can help you reach your fitness goals sooner.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) – working intensely for brief periods and then resting briefly to recover -- can make your fitness sessions go farther. In fact, according to the ACSM, after doing an HIIT workout, your body continues to burn off extra calories for up to 24 hours.

Activities such as bicycling, running, inline skating and stair climbing lend themselves perfectly to interval training. There's no need to keep consulting your watch: you can run, for example, for the duration of three telephone poles and then walk for two beyond them. Or you can create your own start and finish points.

Be creative with intervals to keep you interested in doing them. Your hard work could pay off in pounds shed.
