Style Gets Wet and Wild

Foul weather doesn’t have to frustrate your fashion sense. You may have to battle wind and rain this weekend and into the fall, but you can look great doing it. The key to looking pulled together during a storm is simple: don’t deny the elements. Rain boots, belted trenches and a sturdy-but-stylish-umbrella will have you weathering any storm with your impeccable style intact.

-- Pull yourself up by your boot straps: Rain boots are a staple for any wardrobe. With the multitude of colors and patterns available, it’s easy to put your stamp on any storm. Hunter Boots offer everything from classic black to bubble gum pink. The leopard print Welly inserts are the purr-fect way to keep your tootsies toasty all autumn.

-- Head into the trenches: You have no business storm chasing -- or heading to Stop-and-Shop for supplies -- without a proper trench coat. Burberry comes to mind, of course, but you can find a fun and functional trench coat just about anywhere. Look for one with a figure-flattering belt -- and use it. Try flipping up the collar for extra flair when the winds get wild.

-- Channel Mary Poppins: Invest in an umbrella, a real, honest-to-goodness, not-purchased-from-a-Manhattan-street-vendor umbrella. You don’t have to break the bank, but you should probably spend more than $3.00. Saks Fifth Avenue at the Stamford Mall offers a wide array of blowout-saving umbrellas for under $50.00.
