Stick Shift is Dead. Long Live the Stick Shift.

It's nearly impossible to buy a new car with a stick shift these days (unless you can afford a brand-spanking new Porsche), and driving a manual transmission is becoming a dying art.

But Mini is doing its part to keep the manual transmission alive by offering a $500 discount on certain stick-shift-equipped cars through the end of August. The offer applies to the stock Cooper, as well as the Clubman and convertible (Countryman drivers will have to slum it with automatic).

Click on Mini's website for the full details about this promotion.

And if you buy a standard transmission Mini, make sure you teach your (licensed) children how to master the dying art of the downshift.
