Stew Leonard's Offers Free Garden Classes

Do you want to be a gardener, but don’t know where to start? No worries. Head for Stew Leonard’s Garden Center in Norwalk and Jeannie Mortensen, Stew’s “Garden Jeannie,” will teach you everything you need to know.

Free workshops run every Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. through the summer. You’ll learn how to grow tomatoes and flowers, and you’ll get tips on organic gardening. There’s a class on fruit trees and bushes, and another on dealing with deer and other pesky backyard critters. Are you a rose lover? Come and learn how to grow them. Or maybe hydrangeas are your favorites? There’s a class on both these long-flowering beauties.

You don’t need a reservation. Just show up at 9 a.m. You’ll even get free hand-outs for home reference. For information and a schedule, call (203) 847-7213. Classes are also being held at Stew's Danbury and Yonkers locations.
