Lemons are fabulous fruits that zest any food or drink's flavor. They're also powerpacked with health boosters, including citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin and limonene, which are all good for your health.
People have recognized the salubrious nature of the tart citrus for centuries. Ancient Egyptians believed lemons served as protection from some poisons -- and they were not wrong. Lemons promote immunity and fight infection. And if that weren't enough, they are antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting. Lemon juice also aids digestion and helps cleanse the liver.
Here are some other interesting twists on the lemon:
Citric acid in lemons is effective in treating acne, and its vitamin C and alkaline nature also kill bacteria that cause the condition. Squeeze lemon juice on affected acne area and leave it on overnight,. Wash with water the following morning.
Lemons' antibacterial properties can accelerate the healing process of canker sores. To treat a canker, mix the juice of freshly squeezed lemon into a glass of lukewarm water and rinse mouth with solution. Repeat three times a day.
And to treat corns on feet, place a thin slice of lemon directly onto the affected area. Cover with a bandage and replace after 24 hours.
