The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum has cordially invited us to tea. On May 2 at 2:00 p.m., the mansion rotunda will be the setting for a formal Victorian tea service, featuring English tea ceremony expert and area caterer Carol Timpanelli of the Royal Tea Company of Trumbull.
Guests will enjoy traditional English tea fare featuring three types of sandwiches and a host of sweet confections including chocolate toffee trifle, (as featured in Bon Appetit), assorted cookies, carrot and coconut tea cakes, and pots of Darjeeling tea.
In 1977, Timpanelli traveled to England to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ascension of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne. Her passion for the ritual of serving tea took hold then and there. Since then, she has organized public teas for celebrities such as Martha Stewart, the Duchess of York, and Tommy Hillfiger, and for organizations throughout the tri-state area.
This is the third annual Victorian tea at the museum and its popularity continues to build each year. LMMM President Sheldon Gerarden calls it an extremely elegant event. Its also a guaranteed sellout. Tickets are $35 for non-members and $30 for members. Proceeds will benefit the museum's educational programs.
For reservations and more information, call 203-838-9799, ext. 17, or go to info@lockwoodmathewsmansion.com. The mansion is located at 295 West Avenue in Norwalk.
