Restaurant Week Kicks Off

There’s no shortage of dynamite places to dine in our area. Seafood, sushi, South American -- you name it, we have it. And next week, Gold Coast foodies are in for a special treat: Westport Restaurant Week. This is the second time the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce has organized a Restaurant Week; the first was in February of this year, and by all accounts it was a major success.

“It’s such a good opportunity for people to try a place they’ve been meaning to try,” says Linda Kavanagh, a spokesperson for the event. “Or to head back to a spot they haven’t been to in a while, because I guarantee you there will be something new.” Participating restaurants will be dishing up deals from Sunday, August 29 through Saturday, September 4. All will offer prix fixe menus starting at $10.10 for lunch for one, and $20.10 for dinner for one.

But just because the prices are low, doesn’t mean they’re skimping.

“We’ll know what we’ll be offering when we get the email from our farmer this weekend,” says Café Manolo chef, Pedro Garzon. “He’ll tell us what’s good, what he’s bringing, and we’ll get creative.” Creativity is no problem for Chef Garzon. His regular menu overflows with European inspired dishes, with a twist, like the Truffled Pecorino with Quince and Drizzled Honey.

The folks at Matsu Sushi, the only participating Japanese restaurant, are also waiting to see what the market will produce. “It’s too early to say what we’ll be serving,” says manager Pauline Lee. “We’ll see what’s fresh.” This comfy eatery, run by owner and head chef, Michael Cao, has been around for eight years and is always packed. “We do more than Sushi,” says Pauline. “We have cooked roe, hibachi, something for everyone.”

Like Matsu Sushi, Restaurant Week offers something for everyone. Participating restaurants include: Blue Lemon, The Boathouse, Da Pietro’s, Mansion Clam House, Café Manolo, Matsu Sushi, The River House, Rizzuto’s, Tarantino’s, Tavern on Main, and Thali.

With all these options and prices this low, the only question is: Which restaurant will you try first?
