There's nothing more fun for a foodie than the opportunity to sample. Whether it's a plastic shot cup of chowder at Stew Leonard's, a sip of Riesling at Fat Cat Pie Co., or a sliver of Emmenthaler at Darien Cheese, followers of the culinary pursuits are on a neverending quest for nuances in flavor. Now, food fans can add a honey tasting to their schedule when Red Bee Apiary and Gardens offers a flight of seven artisanal versions of this sweet liquid gold.
On Monday, May 31, honey sommelier (who knew?) Marina Marchese, author of HONEYBEE: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper, is set to lead participants on a tour through the variances of each sample, describing the process by which the honey is harvested and how factors like geographical location and nectar source determine color and flavor. Each guest receives a sample two-ounce jar of Red Bee's signature Wildflower Honey.
Just the sound of the menu items - signature wildflower, goldenrod, blueberry blossom and star thistle, to name a few - are enough to send your sweet tooth soaring.
The Memorial Day weekend tasting was added after the instant sellout of the first such event, which took place earlier in the month. For more information, tasters can go to redbee.com or email redbee@optonline.net.
