Quick! Order Garlic Bulbs Before It's Too Late

If you love fresh garlic, why not grow your own? It's easy - all you need is good, rich soil, plenty of sunshine and top quality garlic bulbs.

Plant garlic in the fall at the same time as daffodil and tulip bulbs. The tricky thing is finding good garlic to plant, as suppliers and nurseries run out every year.

The Cook's Garden is one place that still has garlic available. The Garlic Store is another. This online store sells certified, domestically grown organic garlic, and has just started shipping bulbs for fall planting.

There are several varieties of garlic but hardnecks and softnecks are the most common. Plant a couple of different types and see which works best in your garden.

When the garlic arrives it will look no different from the garlic you buy in the store. Separate the cloves and plant each one with the blunt end down, six inches apart and one and a half inches down. But wait to plant until mid-October when the weather is cooler.

The garlic will start to grow early in the spring and will be ready to harvest by mid-summer.
