Protect Your Dog From the Heat

It's hard to resist the pleading glance of a canine companion who wants to hitch a ride on even the briefest of road trips. But cars can reach dangerous temperatures quickly in hot weather, posing a serious health threat to Fidos large and small. Avoid leaving unattended pets in the car for even a short time.

* Here are some symptoms of heat exhaustion/stroke in dogs:

* Panting

* Staring

* Anxious expression

* Refusal to obey commands

* Warm, dry skin

* High fever

* Rapid heartbeat

* Vomiting

* Collapse

Keep your dog cool and hydrated in summer months, and avoid exercise during the midday sun. There's plenty of time for frolicking early and later in the day.
