President Obama's Super Bus Hits the Road

There are bus rides, and then there are bus rides. President Obama's new bus, which debuted this week ahead of his national road tour, is not exactly a good old-fashioned Greyhound Express.

The hardware-loaded vehicle cost $1.1 million and it's known as "Stagecoach" when the President is aboard. But the Secret Service, which purchased the tricked out ride, claims the super-bus will be cheaper and safer than what they used to do, which is leasing a bus and temporarily outfitting it with the required safety equipment.

The Secret Service is not exactly forthcoming as to what keeps the President safe in his motorcoach. But it's likely no less shabby than the Presidential limousine, which can withstand bullets, small bombs and chemical attacks and also has a supply of the President's blood on board in case of emergencies, not to mention an impressive cache of arms. Oh, and a motorcade of more than two dozen support vehicles travels with the bus at all times.

If all buses were as cool, the Greyhound Express might be a lot more popular.
