NORWALK, Conn. – Wandering around SoNo, you might have noticed a new shop on Water Street that opened just in time for the holiday season. Americana's Concept Shop , which was launched in mid-November and will remain open through February, features local artisans selling their wares – from accessories to natural beauty products to specialty condiments and more.

The pop-up shop is the brainchild of the 1777 Company , a Norwalk-based company that has its headquarters at the same spot at 87 Water St.

Begun in 2016 by Norwalk resident Chris L. Fuentes, the company invents products – micro-brands – where it sees a gap in the industry. That's according to Lauren Gulliver, a project manager at the 1777 Company and co-manager of Americana’s Collective, which produces the events in the space, such as the pop-up shop.

The company aims to fuse traditional practices like those used by old-school lifestyle brands with tailor-built shared-services platforms.

For instance, the 1777 Company has a line of organic gummy bears, Der Bears, and an e-commerce market for high-end gifts called the 25th Gift Company . That features silver gifts — as tradition dictates for a 25th anniversary — for weddings, the home, and any occasion.

Americana’s Collective was born when they realized they had empty space at a prime location.

“We’re building out a coffee house right next to our offices,” said Gulliver. “We have the shop finished but are working on the kitchen, so we thought it would be great to bring a bunch of local vendors together and offer a space where they could showcase their work.”

The initial vendors were selected because they were friends of employees of the 1777 Company — and then word spread. The only criteria? To be a small, local business.

“We really were just looking for good people to work with that thrive on creativity and community,” said Gulliver.

The 1777 Company is pleased with the response to the pop-up shop, which has been credited with setting up a welcoming and creative environment at Americana’s Collective, with its diversity and high-quality products.

“There really is something for everyone.”

You can find Americana’s Concept Shop at 87 Water St. through February. It's open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
