Norwalk's Original Swanky Franks Vies For Win In DVlicious Hot Dog Contest

NORWALK, Conn. -- The classic hot dog, in all its bronzed, charred perfection, holds a special place in the hearts – and stomachs -- of most Americans, especially come summer. July, in fact, is National Hot Dog Month, thanks to the designation by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

Frank Talk: This unrepentant roadside dive serves its Americana-on-a-bun fried grilled or fried until crackly and dark. The Boar’s Head dogs are appropriately garlicky, but for an extra punch, try their “red hots,” which are spicy sausages. Around since 1947, Swanky Franks recently underwent a management change, but its plain and simple ambiance and service with a smile remains the same.

Top This: Swanky Franks makes its own chili for its famed chili-cheese dogs. And their mustard is high-quality – no crayon-yellow stuff here, say customers.
