This is a busy time for residents as children head back to school, and family time is often burdened with homework, after-school and social activities. A public library card is a ticket to free educational resources and activities that bring families together. Libraries not only provide resources to parents and children that support early literacy and lifelong learning, but truly transform how families spend time together.

Card holders have access to a family destination that provides a spectrum of free services, including computer workshops for all ages; 3D printing; database searching capability from home, covering topics ranging from consumer ratings to investment research, homework help, job search, language study, fine arts lessons and so much more; book groups; author talks; family story times; and movie and game nights.

The library card also allows patrons to borrow books, ebooks; audiobooks; electronic magazines; music CDs; and DVDs. This year’s Library Card Sign-Up Month Honorary Chair, Snoopy, the famous dog from the Peanuts comic strip, is calling attention to the supportive role libraries and library professionals play in the education, academic achievement and development of children.

Timed to coincide with the beginning of the school year, Library Card Sign-Up Month is a reminder to parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step toward lifelong learning.

In 2015, they signed-up 400 new library card holders and are hoping to exceed that number this year. Bring the entire family to the Norwalk Public Library to sign-up for library cards – a free ticket to education, entertainment, family fun and community spirit.
