It's one-part SUV, with a dash of Mini Cooper. But wait. It also looks slightly like a leaping frog. The Nissan Juke might defy classification, but it's definitely creating a buzz among car buyers.
Mauricio Sanchez, sales manager at Bruce Bennett Nissan in Wilton, avoids one-word descriptions of the Juke, as the new little subcompact hatchback seems to laugh in the face of single adjectives. "All I can say is that people love it," he says. "It's small but not too small. It's easy to park and has all-wheel drive, which is great around here, and it's fun to drive."
And if 28 to 32 miles per gallon fuel consumption equals fun, then the Juke is a rolling playground. Available in either manual or automatic continuously variable transmissions (CVT), the car's four-cylinder turbo engine makes the Juke a quick little ride indeed. It also has sport-tuned suspension, tight steering and all-wheel-drive system that enhance handling.
The Juke's appeal must also have to do with some of its standard features, which include (on the S version): 17-inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, cruise control, keyless entry, air-conditioning, 60/40-split-folding rear seats, tilt steering wheel, trip computer, Bluetooth connectivity (and a six-speaker stereo with CD player), iPod integration, auxiliary audio jack and steering-wheel-mounted controls.
Mauricio adds that buyers are intrigued by its unique look. "It's definitely different looking," he says. "But it's appealing to lots of different buyers, young and old. I've had young people buy it, but I also had a retired police officer from New York City buy one last week for his wife."
