New Canaan Mom Finds Order in Chi

Kathleen Ho’s mother could never understand why her daughter kept moving her bedroom furniture. “I just had this need to move things around,” says the New Canaan resident and mother of five. Kathleen is the owner of Intuitive Designs and a feng shui practitioner.

“I was in Boston for a wedding in 1994 when I had the good fortune to meet the late His Holiness Grandmaster Professor Lin Yun Rinpoche,” says Kathleen. The professor was a philosopher and a leader of Black Sect Tantric Buddhism, which incorporates feng shui into its practice. Intrigued, Kathleen decided to learn more and signed up for a course at The New England School of Feng Shui. She also booked a feng shui consultation for her home. “Imagine my surprise when the consultant turned out to be the director of the school!” she says.

Feng Shui is all about creating balance and directing energy forces within the home. Clearing clutter is an important part of it. “Energy stagnates around clutter,” Kathleen says, “and depending on where it is in the home or office that can have a direct impact on life situations.” She explains that feng shui is a tool that creates clarity by bringing balance and harmony to each space.

Kathleen is a form school feng shui practitioner, which means she orients the home with the alignment of the front door using a bagua, or energy map. “I use a modern, intuitive approach to this ancient art, using my experience, knowledge and love of design and decorating,” she says.

Kathleen is thrilled that she has achieved her goal of raising a family and building her own business. Intuitive Designs has grown to include professional organizing and home staging for residential and commercial real estate. She travels all over the tri-state area making sure the chi, the universal energy that flows through our living spaces, is flowing in the right direction. “Through feng shui I found my niche,” she says. “And an explanation for why I was always moving everything around!”

Have you ever felt that things just aren’t quite right in your home? Could be a case of blocked “chi.”
