Models Walk for Key to the Cure

Most fashion shows get by on looks alone, but the beauty on display at the Saks Fifth Avenue Key to the Cure show on Thursday was more than skin deep. The Greenwich location hosted their annual fundraiser fashion show to benefit CancerCare of Connecticut, and it was difficult to say which was more impressive: the looks on the catwalk or the community support for breast cancer survivors.

“We’ve done this every year since 1999,” said Geri Corrigan, a spokesperson for Saks. “And today’s turnout has been great.”

Guests sipped mimosas before settling in for some welcome remarks, most notably from Elida Gollomp, a Westport resident and breast cancer survivor. “When I got my diagnosis,” said Elida, “all I could think was that I wanted to see my kids graduate. Next year, God willing, I will.”

Those walking the catwalk were not models by vocation, but volunteers. But these Fairfield County ladies strutted with the poise and confidence of real professionals.

All the looks were pieces from the current Saks collection. One traffic-stopping standout, worn by Megan Petti, was a pleated, mid-thigh grazing red dress from Nanette Lepore. The playful silhouette coupled with an edgier zip front made this piece deceptively demure. Megan shared the stage with her mother, Courtney Petti, who wowed the room in an ivory dress with a shirred front by Chanel. “My mother had breast cancer,” said Courtney. “We’re really big supporters of CancerCare. We wouldn’t have missed this.”

Alexis Donovan dazzled in a tailored Akris Punto dress in burnt orange. This dress (another with a zip front) was a flirty throwback to the early seventies, with its pleats and waist-accentuating buckle. “I have family and friends who have had breast cancer,” said Alexis, the store manager at the Greenwich Tiffany location. “I’m so happy to be a part of this. They asked me and I said, ‘absolutely.’”

Don’t worry if you missed the show. You still have a chance to support Saks and their efforts to battle breast cancer. Shop now through Sunday, October 24, when Saks will donate a portion of sales to CancerCare of Connecticut.
